The Bishop’s Luncheon and Issues Briefing, February 4
First, heartfelt thanks to all who supported the Lutheran Advocacy Fall Conference in November. What a wonderful occasion. We heard inspiring perspectives from members of a new generation of state legislators: Senator Angel Charley of Gallup and Representative Sarah Silva of Las Cruces. Our advocacy partners, Jeanette Brahl and Emily Wildau, provided details on the challenges facing so many New Mexico families as they work to provide for the basics of life. Trip Jennings spoke about faith and responsibility in journalism. What impact did this program have on attendees? We heard such comments as “Best LAM-NM conference ever,” “This conference nourished me,” and “Where I had despair, now I have hope.”
Now onto God’s Work, Our Voices as the New Mexico Legislature prepares to convene in Santa Fe next month for a 30-day session. Kurt Rager and the Policy Committee of LAN-NM have finalized the Advocacy Agenda to guide us in our communication with our legislators. We invite you to be among the voices in Santa Fe that speak up for just policy.
Please join us during the session for the Bishop’s Luncheon and Issues Briefing in Santa Fe. On this day, we hear from Bishop Meghan Johnston Alebouni and learn more about legislation that promotes social and economic justice. We also honor a legislator whose work has helped develop just policy. Here are a few details:
